It’s Official!:Profits for them;sickness and bankruptcy for us

September 18, 2010

The nightmare has been going on for Christine and Tim Ruggiero and it just got worse. This couple in Wise County, Texas has known all along that living amongst the gas wells was not a good thing for health, wealth, and property values. After months of derision and ridicule, they got the official appraisal. Their $257,300 property which sits amongst the gas wells in the Barnett Shale is now worth $75,240

75% LOSS

Read all about it in the Denton Record Chronicle. So those of you who currently live amongst the gas wells, you better run to your appraiser on Monday morning.

Our loss is more than apparent now, and I certainly don’t need to repeat what’s already been said about it, except that what we suspected on September 16, 2009 was validated by the County Taxing Authority on September 16, 2010-with a panel of five on the ARB, simply voting ‘aye’, we now officially owe more on our mortgage than what it’s worth.

The fact of the matter is, we all lose. Every gas company out there loses, because they now have Aruba Petroleum to single handedly thank for causing their PR dept and firms a lot more work and aggrevation. How they will spin this is beyond me, although I do suspect something along the lines of “That’s Aruba, we don’t operate that way.”

Aruba Petroleum also loses, because their name is being dragged through their own drilling mud, right through the landfarming they have left in their wake, but it’s all their own doing. IF on September 16, 2009, Aruba Petroleum wrote us a check for the estimated valaue of our home – 250K plus $50K in improvements, I can say even today I wouldn’t have been happy about being forced from our home, but given what we’re facing today…We would really liked to have had the opportunity to move our family elsewhere and start over. Aruba has made millions just on the wells on our property. ($2M in the the first 5 months) so I think quite honestly, giving us a check for $300K back then would have been a small investment on their part, and they could could’ve continued to tout their ‘Corporate responsibility’, ‘Good Corporate Citizens’ and ‘Good Neighbor’ bullshit without having us in the way with our pesky video cameras, FLIR videos, constant TCEQ investigations and a lawsuit they cannot possibly win. I cannot wait to come testify before Dallas City Council.

Most importantly, our collective comminuties lose. Big time lose. The more that people like us come forward, document their cases and situations, and win protest hearings, the less tax dollars that roll into the city and county coffers who are already facing severe budget cuts and shortfalls. Public services are going to have to be cut, there just simply won’t be any money to be had.

So the question is, how many people like Christine and I have to ‘happen’ before our city, town and county leaders get a clue? Is the millions in promised cash today worth the clean up costs, lawsuits, and lost and never regained tax revenue of tomorrow?

You’re invited to stop by our place anytime. I-35 North, tahe the University/Hwy 380 exit. Turn Left and drive West for 15 miles. Look for the white rail fence in front of the Highland Hills one-acre homesites about the 14 mile mark and turn Right onto CR 2513 right where the fence ends. Before you turn, look over to your left, where you’ll see TWO aruba rigs, about 600 yds apart, filling the sky with diesel exhaust, one of which is 200 feet from a young mother with infant child. Proceed one mile, and turn Right onto CR 2514 and proceed one mile. At the .9 mile mark, the road turns sharply to the left. Slow down as you make the turn, you never know when there will be a tanker truck coming towards you. On the right, the first thing you’ll notice is our Tiki Torch, or what Aruba calls a ‘thermal oxidizer’. Can’t miss it. Stop by anytime, but remember your camera. Your friends and neighbors won’t believe you if you don’t. If you happen to catch me at home, I also give free guided tours of some other Aruba sites in the area and a cranky compressor station. Y’all come back, now.

      Tim
You and Christine are in our thoughts. It is hoped that first you get into a healthy place to live. Second, that as stressful as it can be that you take them to the cleaners and as an example to the rest of these companies nationwide learn something. I don’t believe any thing that any of them say. Now it’s at a point, you can’t believe anything that comes from a large company. Those days of trust us are now gone. Wishing you tons of luck and support. Take care.
