Drought! while the gas industry destroys our water supply

May 13, 2011

Three Things to Remember about the Texas drought

1. The Texas legislature can’t seem to get a good water plan together. Read what the Dallas News said:CLICK HERE

2.The gas industry takes multi million gallons of our water for drilling which you can never use again.

3. And don’t forget to take short showers, and don’t water your lawn between 9 am and 6 pm forever.

And oh yeah, I’m getting thirsty just writing this…………………………………………………………………….

I predict drillers will run out of water to frack with, before they run out of natural gas.

We don’t really know how much water they use because in many areas no one is monitoring it. However, we do know this from an open records request to UTGC:

Of the metered sources in the four county Upper Trinity Groundwater Conservation District, Barnett Shale drillers used 1,146,598,272 gallons of water and paid .00022 cents per gallon in 2009. Many drillers took water from unmetered sources but there were no enforcement actions.

So the amount of water used statewide is mind boggling.

In addition to the water used for fracking, they have to use millions of gallons of water to mine for the frack sand. That mining is also destructive to land. They are leveling parts of the Ozark Mountains to get the frack sand. Drill, Baby, drill! /sarcasm.
