Grand Prairie halts all gas drilling due to drought

August 5, 2011

As of Thursday, the city of Grand Prairie, Texas has issued a Stage 2 Alert on water usage for everyone in the city including all gas drilling operations. Because of the restrictions, no municipal water can be used for gas drilling. Amy Sprinkles, Director of Marketing for Grand Prairie stated that Stage 2 water restrictions DID include all gas drilling.

Doug Curny with the Grand Prairie Water Department said: “this includes ALL drilling and fracking activities by gas operators.” They could apply for an exception…but it would need to be “per well.” And that would be unlikely.
He also said that the Tarrant Regional Water District will likely issue their restriction on Sept. 1st without a hurricane or rain…which could last through the winter.

If the gas industry needs any water for fracking operations, the industry will have to truck the water in from other areas of the Barnett Shale.

This story will continue to update…………..

We can’t go on like this!! Somebody said that maybe Rick Perry will pray for us this weekend! I suspect he might pray for the drillers and frackers first. Just a hunch.
