They ain’t seen nothing yet! The natives are growing restless at the backroom deals and illegal activities of those elected or appointed to lead our city. The very idea of choosing not to hear from concerned citizens who took their time to come to City Hall is anathema to democracy. The fact that meetings are scheduled during the work day when most citizens have absolutely NO opportunity to participate in their government is bad enough, but to deny a voice to those who do make the effort to show up is both unconscionable and unacceptable behavior on the part of city government.

The City of Dallas illegally approved drilling leases without allowing public comment in 2008. Backroom deals were made by the City Manager acting as a lobbyist for those who paid for the leases of city-owned land and minerals. No consideration of the environmental damage or harm to citizens’ health and safety, property values or quality of life has been taken by city government. Now, citizens are being denied a voice in our government, and that may well be the last straw that broke the camel’s back.

It is time for citizens to unite before the May City Council elections and replace any elected officials who support out-of-town corporations over citizens while demanding that their replacements then replace CPC Commissioners who were appointed by the outgoing Council members. We need to clean house and get a city government that works for the people of the city first. And, while we are at it we need to fire Mary Suhm to clean up the City Manager’s office, as well as others on city staff who think they are our dictators rather than our civil servants.

If it goes down in Dallas like it did in Denton the council and mayor will postpone all decisions until after the elections. That is why it has taken Denton over four years to get a half ass set of drilling ordinances. I am sure if we could get to any emails or records in Denton we would find out George Campbell pulled the same thing here as your girl Mary did in Dallas.
The city managers always influence decisions that is why we had Ed Ireland on our drilling ordinance task force.
